OR-Sen: Gordon Smith in Serious Trouble

SUSA shows Gordon Smith's approval rating at an all-time low of 46%, while local Republican pollster Riley Research shows his reelect at 38%:
SUSA (PDF)
      8/13 7/16
Fav 46 48
Unfav 44 43

Riley
Smith 38
Merkley 19
Frohnmayer 7
I would have preferred Riley show us numbers without Frohnmayer, as he hasn't made any noise about running for over a year, it appears. Also, Riley provides no name recognition data, though a previous poll showed Merkley at 39% name rec. And of course, Riley completely ignores Novick. These numbers are, though, in line with a previous DSCC poll that showed Smith at 34% reelect.

Action: Fox News/CBC Debates 'Still in the Works'

James Rucker, founder of ColorofChange.org, has learned that CBC Institute board member Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-MI-13) stated yesterday, Wednesday, that a CBC-sponsored Democratic debate "is still in the works with Fox; it just hasn't been announced."  This is in addition to the debate already announced with CNN.

From yesterday's CBC press release (thanks, Reef), there will actually be two such debates:

The CBC Institute is also in discussions with the Fox News Channel to broadcast two debates.

The CBC may think it can get away with this if they announce the deal only after it's too late to change course.  We must demand that the CBC forswear, now, any attempt to sponsor a debate with Fox News.
